How To Get A Gel Manicure At Home DIY

Hello, friends!!! If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I love my nails to be painted and pretty. However, after over two years of acrylic nails, I was tired of paying $40 for a fill and even more for a full set. One dreadful night (dreadful for my nails, that is), I soaked my acrylics off, bought a gel kit, and learned how to do my own gel manicure. Where I live, a gel manicure alone is $30!!! If I needed one every two weeks, that is $720 a year. I figured this was a way to save some money and pamper myself.

After a couple of months of trial and error and experimentation, I believe I found the easiest and most efficient way to get a gel manicure and make it last! Read on to see how I did it!

Step One – Push back your cuticles and file your nails. After that, prime your nails with the gel primer. This is an essential step. I experimented and did not use the primer and the nail polish peeled right off.

Step Two – Using the gel base and top coat, which is essentially a clear coat, paint your nails. Be very careful not to get this on your skin and only on the nails.

Step Three – Cure for 15 seconds in the LED light. My lamp is a little small so I do my fingers and thumb separately.

Step Four – Paint a thin coat of your gel polish. Keep this coat pretty thin.

Step Five – Cure for 30 seconds. If you accidentally go a little to thick with the polish, cure for an extra fifteen seconds. Luckily with this lamp, it flashes every 15 seconds so you know what time frame you are in.

Step Six – Paint a thicker coat on top.

Step Seven – Cure.

Step Eight – Paint a top coat and cure for 15-30 seconds depending on the thickness of your coat.

Step Nine – Using the Gel Cleaner, remove the top, sticky layer from your nails. This makes your nails shiny and smooth!

And BAM! You have an at home gel manicure! It is super easy and a great way to save money each month. The whole gel manicure set costs $30. A gel manicure alone costs upwards of $35. With trial and error, you will get a perfect manicure!
